Yes, friends on August the first  The Professor's Write Site was publishing and a real online presence. My Writing Guidelines - How To Determine If You Are Ready To Write!

As many of you have already read when visiting this site I am a man whose aim is to help develop the Quality of your writing.

 I have been approached by many people who've asked  " What is Quality ?" Others have posed this query. "When is the best time to Write?" Still others have asked. "Is Grammar and Spelling really that important?" A real overwhelming top ranking enigma has to be this one."How do I know if I can write?"


The one which I am asked after I've had conversations and correspondences with these questioners is this.

The difference between That Skillfully Crafted, Top Prize Winning, Front Page Ready Success and yours is What? The Years Of High Standing as a Product of the Educational System?? The Degrees in those Accredited English Literature and Journalism Courses? The Letters B.A., M.A., Ph.D or even designations like “Teacher, Doctor or Professor” perhaps. If you are like most writers especially those whose self confidence is lacking, the answer that pops into your mind is “Mine just isn't good enough”! But why isn't it “Good Enough?”

The Verb that becomes a Noun: Behold the Gerund.

When is a verb, not a verb?

If you take a Verb and give it the suffix “ing” you have created a Gerund!

A Gerund??? Yes the resulting word is a noun imitator called a gerund!

For the sake of illustrating this point here are a few examples of Gerunds!

Creating Fictional Characters - How I Do It

All the various writing styles I've ever attempted, regardless of the topic or genre chosen, begin the same way. Each appeals to my creative urges, fuelled on by my need to reply, answer, compliment and or complete an idea, which for me was to that point, unfinished. 

How to Create Believable Characters:

Introduction:

 There is an artistry to making any piece of fictional writing worth reading. How successful, depends on the believability of the characters that the readers can readily recognize. Early character recognition allows the writer's audience to find, identify and choose which of the various player parts most appeals to them. The more detailed the principle personalities are presented for ones readers, the quicker their roles can be ascertained as to the impact each has in the storyline.

 Descriptive writing is to print what detailed graphic art, colour and definition is to the animated film. The subtlety of a well placed adjective can be the difference between a sentence and key piece of plot development. Such constructive detailing adds greatly to the avid readers interest, appreciation and participation. 

Recreating Chapter One :

Attempting  a Rewrite of One's Own Original Piece

Having to write an original opening chapter is hard enough for most writers! Having to attempt to capture the essence of the storyline after the successive chapters have been read is a nightmare. The following rewrite of my "Hunter or Hunted" series from scratch introduced me to an unusual and demanding bit of writing which gave me an insight into the mindset of the writers who must adapt a book into a screenplay! Normally this would be reworking an opening  scene based on the book. But what happens when you don't have the first chapter?

The way to get to be considered an authority on any topic you write about, is to make sure that you know it thoroughly, as far as is humanly possible. Research is The key to any type of credibility, whether you are writing a how to on making a recipe, making a child’s toy or doing investigative journalism. Research is required to find all the details that the topic entails.

The way to know it inside and out, is to get all the particulars by asking all the questions that you would if you were the one who needed to know how it was done and to be able to replicate the results. We all know how to do many things and all too often we believe that we are experts in those areas. The problem arises when we are asked to explain how we do what we do so well.

We then to eliminate the parts that are routine and so obvious to anyone who has done it too. That is the real problem! The assumption that others know leads to parts being missed. We need to realize that those who are requesting the answers actually don't know the first thing about that subject.

There you are! You have a Topic! You've done all the research! You have made your plan, got out all your reference materials, named your characters, assigned the roles, set the scenes and know what you want to tell. You are here! There the keyboard awaits, with the screen blank and the program opened at the word processor,waiting your touch, to make the magic happen.

There is only one thing stopping you! YOU! What more do you need to create that masterpiece you've kept from prying eyes? The moment of truth is at hand, yet you hesitate. The story has waited for the right moment, for ever  so long, So what is holding you back? "But What if They don't like it?" Asks the little voice! "What if someone else has the same subject, words or worse "Title?  What if it sounds too much, like someone else's work? Do I need a lawyer?  What about copyrights ? Am I ready?"

To my many followers and fans, the purpose of this post is to help you find the Writer inside yourselves. The approach that I take to writing is from the position of a person who for years has enjoyed the works of a myriad of authors.  Because of the diversity of my reading tastes I am one who recognizes the storytellers talent in others.

I am writing with the intent of revealing to you the thought processes that I use to become creative. The place that all writing originates is in the imagination of the writer. The idea for every piece ever written is retrieved from the experiences which one feels as they delve into the realm of creativity. The intensity of the reaction is equal to the closer you are to the topic you've chosen.
